Abdominal etching, and more broadly liposculpture, are advanced methods of liposuction, allowing to emphasize certain muscular reliefs of the body. They allow to improve with even more details and finesse the silhouette.
In fact, they perform a real sculpture of the abdominal muscles, pectorals or other muscles, in order to make them stand out and obtain a more bulging and defined appearance.
This procedure is mostly applied to the abdomen, to draw the famous “six pack”.
The goal of abdominal etching is to bring out the natural relief of the abdominal muscles and more particularly the rectus abdominis muscles.
The rectus abdominis muscles extend from the thorax to the pubis and are cut by 6 tendon intersections (3 per muscle), thus creating the demarcation of 8 abdominal squares.
Even if the anatomy is constant, the drawing of the muscular reliefs will be different between a man and a woman but also between each patient. We follow the pre-existing muscle contours for a natural and aesthetic result even if there is a variation in weight.

Operated for a cyst on my scalp, I didn't feel anything and I'm relieved to have it removed, all in a very short time (operation 3 days after the first consultation). So happy!
The principle is to perform selective liposuction of abdominal fat. Previously, and still in some cases, a global and homogeneous liposuction of the abdomen was performed, in order to significantly reduce the fat layer, but without caring about the abdominal reliefs.
In abdominal etching, we selectively lipoaspire the subcutaneous fat opposite the grooves of the abdomen defining the abdominal muscles, and we leave in place a little more fat opposite the abdominal muscles themselves, in the more prominent areas naturally. Preoperative marking is essential to obtain a harmonious and aesthetic result.
The vertical lines framing the abdominal muscles (white line, semi-lunar line) are drawn, as well as the horizontal lines, in order to obtain an abdominal grid. Without forgetting to mark the oblique muscles and the iliac crest.
Thus, in the grooves, the skin is directly in contact with the abdominal fascia, harmoniously sculpting the relief of the abdomen.
Abdominal etching is for men and women who want to improve the appearance of their stomach, want to redraw the aesthetic abdominal lines and otherwise do not have significant excess body fat. Thin or athletic patients who are unable to enhance their abdominal muscles are the ideal indication.
Abdominal etching is not intended for overweight people or those with significant excess fat.
Excess skin is also not suitable for this technique.
The presence of umbilical hernias and the white line also contraindicates this technique.
This technique can also be used to define other muscle reliefs. It can thus interest the external oblique muscles (the lateral muscles of the belly), the pectorals, the buttocks, the biceps, the calves….
These procedures can be performed during the same operation.
It is a cosmetic surgery procedure such as liposuction, therefore not covered by social security or mutual insurance companies.
The price is very variable from one patient to another. Indeed, it depends on the number of corrections to be treated, the place of intervention, the duration… The price for a liposculpture can vary, from 3500 euros.
This requires a clinical examination by an aesthetic surgeon specializing in body contouring and liposuction, who will be able to evaluate with you and guide you in the choice of the right treatment.
